Come Learn About Cooking Groups

In June the Kitchen Commons Third Friday Potluck will feature an opportunity to learn about the collective cooking group model that we've been piloting in Portland this spring. These groups are a way of stretching food dollars, strengthening community ties and fostering resource and skill sharing. We're modeling our efforts off of established networks in Seattle (communitykitchensnw.org) and Vancouver, B.C. (communitykitchens.ca). A typical group will meet once a month or once a week, divide into recipe teams to cook large quantities of each recipe, share a meal together, and then take home portions of each recipe. Kitchen Commons has three groups going this spring, and we'd like to share what we've learned so far and hopefully inspire you to give it a try in your own congregation, neighborhood, or community center!
