Cooking Up Community: Cooking Group Facilitator Training Saturday 10/20

Do you work with an organization or nonprofit that is thinking about integrating community cooking programs into your work? Are you interested in using collective cooking groups as a way to support food justice and increase food security in your community? Have access to a kitchen space that can be utilized by the public? If so, join Kitchen Commons for an informal info session and training on Collective Cooking Group Facilitation.

Volunteer This Summer At a Cooking Group Session!

Our two NECN-funded cooking groups are cooking up community through this summer and fall, and we could still use some volunteer support to make these groups all they can be and help tell the story of what we're doing. The groups meet on second Wednesdays and third Mondays. Whether you can come to one session or several, it's a great chance to experience the cooking group model in person and lend a hand.

Come Learn About Cooking Groups

In June the Kitchen Commons Third Friday Potluck will feature an opportunity to learn about the collective cooking group model that we've been piloting in Portland this spring. These groups are a way of stretching food dollars, strengthening community ties and fostering resource and skill sharing. We're modeling our efforts off of established networks in Seattle (communitykitchensnw.org) and Vancouver, B.C. (communitykitchens.ca).

Volunteer Opportunities with our NECN-funded Cooking Groups

Kitchen Commons is organizing a series of Collective Cooking Groups in NE Portland and we need your help! Funded by the Northeast Coalition of Neighborhoods,  this project brings community members together to share recipes, gain cooking skills, and make friends in the process.  We currently have two groups meeting monthly as part of the NECN grant that we're seeking volunteer support for, one that meets on second Wednesdays and one on third Mondays. Read on for some ideas for how you could help, or get in touch with your ideas!
